A Short History of Instant Noodles

Instant noodles were invented in 1958 by Momofuku Ando in Japan. He saw the need for quick and affordable meals after World War II. To help with that, he created Chicken Ramen. It was the first noodle that could be cooked simply by adding hot water.

In 1971, Ando introduced Cup Noodles, which made things even easier—just add hot water to the cup and eat straight from it. This new invention quickly became popular worldwide and turned instant noodles into a pantry staple for millions of people.

As instant noodles spread across the globe, people began adding their own creative touches—mixing in eggs, vegetables, cheese, meat, or sauces to make them more filling and flavorful. These small additions soon led to what we now call instant ramen hacks—quick, clever ways to make noodles taste even better.

Today, instant noodles come in many styles and flavors, from spicy Korean ramyun to creamy Thai noodle bowls. They’re fast, tasty, and perfect for anyone looking for a quick, comforting meal. • Use Kewpie mayo for the best flavor and creamy texture. Regular mayo works too if that’s what you have.
  • Want it spicier? Add more chili crisp oil or a pinch of red pepper flakes to turn up the heat.
  • Not a fan of raw garlic? Lightly sauté the garlic before mixing it in for a milder, roasted flavor.
